Broad Winged Hawk

So across the road and near the pond we’ve spotted a broad winged hawk pair with a nest. It’s not too hard to spot the nest in the top of the big oak trees, and they’ve been calling to each other back and forth as we have watched them land. If you look in the top third of the photo, there’s a tree almost dead center that looks like a little fork. You can see the nest here in that little fork.

Unfortunately, about ten days later we came across this mess of feathers on the road about 250 yards from the nest. I’m afraid that a little one may have not made it, fledged early, then was killed. It was really unfortunate to see but we left all the feathers there. Hopefully the pair is still intact and will breed again.
